Good afternoon and Happy nearly end of the month of to you all! I wanted to introduce you all to a new monthly blog post that I will bringing to this blog, called ‘Nat’s Monthly Empties List’. The main purpose of the blog post, is to bring you a monthly round up and honest review of any beauty products that I have used up, ‘emptied’ that month or products that I have nearly finished, which I maybe just didn’t fall in love with.
This idea was born out of me constantly trying to find new products which ‘work’ before wasting my hard earned money on buying items which ultimately end up disappointing you and leaving you with regret. So I thought, what I would love to find on the internet, is someone with a similar skin ‘make up’ (oily/combination), colouring, hair, style etc. where they give honest reviews on products that they have bought, describing what they did and didn’t like about the products, so that I could make up my mind as to whether to buy them for myself.
So with that being said, I thought what better content could I produce by doing that myself and hopefully over time, you will come to look forward to these reviews, maybe even suggesting products that you would like me to try first before you purchase and/or by seeing my thoughts in my monthly round up, I may introduce you to a product that you have not seen before and inspire you to give it a try. And as an added bonus, I will also be picking my favourite clothing item of the month and adding it to the bottom of the post too 🙂
The format of the Post will be to list 3 ‘empty’ items, give it a ONE word review using the words ‘NEED / TRY / PASS’ only and then follow up with a quick overview of what I think about the product.
So here we go… welcome to the very first post of this nature and I look forward to bringing these to you monthly in the written word and following up with a video on YouTube where I will talk more freely about the items too.
Nat’s Monthly Item 1:
Nars Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation
PRICE: £35.00
ONE WORD REVIEW: NEED
For me, I had to start with this product as the first product to use for this post, as I LOVE LOVE LOVE this product. This product has been a firm make up bag favourite of mine for many months and I am so excited to introduce this to you and tell you why. As a person with combination skin who has suffered with acne on and off for the past 10 years, finding a good foundation which was oil-free, medium coverage, long wearing and didn’t dry out the ‘dry parts’ of my skin or make the ‘oily’ parts of my skin too oily, honestly felt as if I was asking for a miracle – and little did I know that I would find it in a well priced product like itself.
The application of the product is really easy, with Nars recommending that you apply the product using your fingertips. Now as a person who has always used make up brushes, I never really understood the application process, but I urge you to believe and follow their instructions, as the product glides over your skin when using your fingers (just make sure you do this after washing your hands to ensure you keep your skin as clean and as bacteria free as possible!).
When using this product, I get a good 8 hours out of this product, with no touch ups and I find that after a couple minutes of applying, it leaves you with a lovely natural glow which looks great in person as well as pictures.
Nat’s Monthly Item 2:
Hourglass Caution Extreme Lash Mascara
Price: 29.00
ONE WORD REVIEW: PASS
The famous highly regarded Hourglass Mascara… I have to say, I wanted to love love this item and whilst I didn’t not, not the like item, I wasn’t blown away by it. It is a good mascara which gives you an intense colour of black. However, if you are like me and a person that has often worn eyelash extensions… well actually let me be real with you… I have been a lover of eyelash extensions for a whole decade! And it is only because of Covid and the restrictions that have been in place here in the UK that I have finally stopped wearing eyelash extensions. So, with that being said, I really was looking for a mascara that gave you that ‘wow’ factor, which lengthened your lashes whilst giving them a good curl and for me, whilst this product gave my lashes a good coating and feels very luxurious on, it just didn’t give me the overall impact I was looking for and this is why I have decided to give it a PASS.
Nat’s Monthly Item 3:
Nars Afterglow Lip Balm – Shade: Dolce Vita
Price: £23.00
ONE WORD REVIEW: NEED
This for me has definitely been one of most favourite products during the ‘Lockdown era’ of 2020. As a fond lover of all things lip balm, especially after having the most severe dry lips whilst being on Roaccutane, this is a lip balm which delivers in two areas: (1) it is very moisturising and I would say it keeps your lips feeling moisturised for a good hour, (2) it is pigmented with colour which means it doubles as a lipstick and can be worn alone, without the need to apply lipstick over the top. I have tried several colours from this range, but for the me the most versatile and ‘money worthy’ colour is Dolce Vita as it seems to work for many different skin tones and is an item that I have bought for family members and friends. After reading this post, if you are ‘umming’ and ‘rr-ing’ about buying one product, then I would definitely put this to the top of your list and recommend buying this product as this is a product that will keep on ‘giving’ throughout all seasons of the year.
Nat’s Favourite Clothing Item of the Month:
Boohoo Funnel Puffer Jacket
Price: £34.00
THOUGHTS: NEED
This product was definitely a wild card for me… as I didn’t think I would love it as much as I would until it came. If you pop on to the website, the way the item is styled is very ‘cool, hip and young’ which kind of put me off, for 35 year old me! But after buying a similar puffer jacket from BooHoo last year and loving it, I thought I would give it a try.
If you follow me on Instagram, then you probably know, I am fan of the colour lilac and this coat with its intense colour is a firm favourite of mine. Not only that, its perfect for the many Lockdown walks we are currently going on and it is a jacket that can be worn into the depths of winter as well as the colder months of spring. It can be worn to wear to a cute ‘coffee and park’ walking dates with a friend (all we can do right now in Lockdown!), as well as a quick walk with the dog and in the future, when are coming out and going to the gym. It is the colour injection that we all need, amongst the gloomiest of days right now and it makes me and others smile, every time I wear it. Also, one last comment on this jacket, is that it has a handy ‘pull tie’ on the back, which is great for making the ‘puff’ of the jacket not too ‘puffy’ if you are not a huge fan of the way a puffer jacket makes you look.
Thats all from me! 🙂 I hope you enjoyed this first instalment. It would be great if you could let me know your thoughts on this post, by commenting in the ‘comments section below and/or suggesting any products you would like me to give a try.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your week all xxx
