Good afternoon all and a very happy first of the month! How are we already 3 months into this year?! It’s odd because whilst this period of our lives has felt slow for many reasons, the months have been flowing by and the start of March marks the month that we as a nation went into Lockdown last year.

Nevertheless, I think the arrival of both the ‘UK Roadmap out of Covid Restrictions’ and the good weather of Spring has helped us all immensely… Evidenced by the fact, that the very next day after the Prime Minsters address, every person I spoke to at work had a new ‘pep in their step’, a better energy and a renewed sense of optimism about what this year has in store for us all. Now that I look back at it and I think about how we started the year, with the Government stating that Covid restrictions were likely to remain throughout the majority of the year, it kinda feels miraculous, that we are now in a position, just under 2 months further on, where in 5 months time all Covid restrictions could be removed for the UK! Long may our progression continue and the optimism of the nation, further increase as the months go on.

I am currently sat here, again, writing in the same spot as I did last week, looking out onto the trees. The only difference this week, is that I have had to slightly close my curtains because I am being blinded by the sun that is pouring in. The arrival of the sunny spring weather came on Friday and sadly due to working I didn’t get to experience it – which is very typical of the British weather! (anyone who works a Mon-Fri 9-5 job can relate, sunny all week, rain all weekend!) But luckily, the weather has been great this weekend and its impact on the strangers I have walked past this weekend, is noticeable.

So as I strolled by myself into town (Joe sadly still can’t walk too far due to Long Covid), walking Lulu (our dog), passing smiling strangers by, it got me thinking about my walks previously over the past couple of months and how the energy of others has indirectly been affecting me. Now, I am a person, that when I go for a walk or run, I consciously smile at people as I go by and say ‘good morning’ or ‘good afternoon’ as I pass. (Granted, I live in the countryside and the number of people I pass is not as many as it would be if I lived in the city (could you imagine how many people I would have to greet?!? I wouldn’t stop saying good morning or good afternoon!)). However, reflecting over the past few months, besides the weather being wet and grey on my walks, the people that I have passed rarely have smiled or greeted me back when saying ‘good morning’ and in turn, I think I have found myself smiling less and becoming more mute on my walks. Which in turn has left me me not enjoying them as much, especially as I have been on my own on a lot of the walks. It makes me think, would I enjoy my regular walks by myself as much, if I didn’t have Lulu walking by my side?

Long story short, my takeaway points from my Saturday Walk musings was this… don’t underestimate the power you have to affect others, don’t underestimate how your energy affects others, even to the strangers that you pass… Many of us, wish good onto others and would like to incorporate small acts of kindness for others into our everyday, but often find that we don’t have the time in our day to incorporate such actions… However, the proof is in the pudding, just a big smile for those that you pass or a greeting of ‘good morning’ can make a person feel good and feel like they are a part of something greater than just their own life. Just imagine, if every time we stepped outside our house and walked past people that intentionally smiled at us and came across 5 people that wished us a ‘good day’ – think about how that would make your soul feel, as you travelled back home.

My takeaway points for this week…

Smile often. Smile more. Intentionally choose to spread good energy when you are out and think about not only the impact it will have on others, but in turn the positive impact that it will have on your life as well. Wishing you all a week full of good energy xxx
